Maze Runner’s Wes Ball tapped for a live-action adaptation of Mouse Guard

Hold up! We've got movement on Anders Walter and Joe Kelly's I KILL GIANTS and now the announcement of a live-action adaptation of David Petersen's MOUSE GUARD, both in the same day? What is this, nerd Christmas? Before I hyperventilate from excitement, I should tell you that Fox has tapped THE MAZE RUNNER trilogy director Wes Ball to helm a sprawling adaptation of the epic series published by Archaia Studios Press/Boom! Studios.

Using a combination of both live-action and visual effects, Ball will aim to bring the story of a brotherhood of mice who've sworn to protect their fellow rodents and forest home from danger during our history's medieval times. Along their epic journey, the brothers battle everything from giant snakes to the harshest of elements while trying to survive in a world of swords, sorcery and strangers in the dark.

Producing the film through his 6th & Idaho banner will be THE BATMAN's Matt Reeves, which has a script being penned by BOOK OF ELI and ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY writer Gary Whitta

Hear me now and spend your money later, friends! MOUSE GUARD is a fantastic series filled with charismatic characters and danger around every tree. It's like THE SECRET OF NIMH meets LORD OF THE RINGS. The art for the series is positively exquisite and every time another volume hits the stands there's cause for celebration. I highly recommend that you seek it out if anything you've read here has piqued your interest.

Wes Ball's THE MAZE RUNNER: THE DEATH CURE is scheduled for a January 26, 2018 release.
