Mon Dieu! Gore Verbinski folds on directing long-in-the-works Gambit movie

Sacrebleu! We've just learned that Gore Verbinski, who'd been attached to direct the long-gestating X-Men spinoff GAMBIT, has dropped off of the 20th Centuty Fox movie. However, before those rumor mill cogs start churning, reports are indicating that the split was a harmonious one, brought on by a conflict in Verbinski's busy schedule and nothing more. It's also worth noting that, despite the RANGO director's abrupt departure, Channing Tatum will remain on board as the film's Cajun-born, kinetic card-wielding Lothario.

Verbinski's fold from the project marks yet another blow for GAMBIT, who in the past has seen filmmakers Doug Liman and Rupert Wyatt board and abandon the seemingly doomed X-Men spinoff. With a release date of February 14, 2019, Fox is going to have to secure another director rather quickly if the studio hopes to woo Marvel fans into theaters on that particular Valentine's Day.

Sainte merde, folks! Is there anything else that would like to go wrong before this movie can get up off the ground? This is like Ryan Reynold's fight to get a proper DEADPOOL film made all over again. Let's just hope that GAMBIT meets the same successful end a Marvel's Merc with a Mouth, once production scores a four of a kind hand in the luck department.

Alright, now that Verbinski is out, who would you like to see seated at the director's table for GAMBIT? I kinda want Gareth Evans on this thing, but he's going to be quite busy for the foreseeable future. Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!
