Moon Crash trailer: The Asylum’s Moonfall mockbuster gets February release date

The Asylum doesn’t only make mockbusters, but over the last couple decades they have come to be known as masters of the mockbuster. When Dune was released, The Asylum brought us Planet Dune. When Disney released Jungle Cruise, The Asylum released Jungle Run. Godzilla vs. Kong was mockbusted with Ape vs. Monster. Other films from The Asylum have included Monster Hunters, The Fast and the Fierce, Battle Star Wars, Alien Predator, Avengers Grimm, Atlantic Rim, Geo-Disaster, San Andreas Quake, Android Cop, The Terminators, Transmorphers… You get the picture. So it’s no surprise to hear that the company has put together a mockbuster version of Roland Emmerich’s latest disaster epic Moonfall. The Asylum’s version of the concept is called Moon Crash, and you can watch the trailer in the embed above!

Best of all, this is a situation where the mockbuster is going to beat the blockbuster into release. While Moonfall is set to reach theatres on February 4th, Moon Crash is getting a digital and VOD release on February 1st.

Jungle Run director Noah Luke was at the helm of Moon Crash, working from a screenplay by Lauren Pritchard and Joe Roche, the writers of Robot Apocalypse and Planet Dune. Here’s the story they crafted for this one:

A global steelworks company partners with an aerospace firm to mine the Moon. But when a drilling accident causes a giant piece of the Moon to crack off and hurtle towards Earth, the surviving space team and the head of the firm must figure out how to destroy the meteoroid before it wipes out the entire planet.

Moon Crash stars Jeremy London (Party of Five), Tyler Christopher (General Hospital), Pauline Egan (Home Before Dark), and Jamison Jones (True Detective).

I haven’t watched most of The Asylum’s mockbusters, but I admire their dedication to cashing in on the latest big studio movies. Moon Crash looks pretty much exactly how I expected it to look, so fans of The Asylum will probably have a blast watching it.
