DVD Cool News #127

The Latest Announcements

V for Vendetta - August 1

August is shaping up to be the month for cool shit and we'll be featuring more cool shit coming to DVD in the weeks ahead. Starting off with one of my top picks of the year thus far, Natalie Portman once again won my heart (and my loins) this time via an English accent that was "mega". That "bird" really has a hold on me, "yaknowwhatImean"? There will be a two-disc special edition with some cool ass artwork and a seperate widescreen, single disc edition. Unfortunately, the details haven't been released for both but stay tuned.

Single Disc Edition

Two Disc Special Edition

Apocalypse Now (SE) - August 15

This new release, called "The Complete Dossier", comes with a cool ass package and both 1979 and 2001 editions of the flick with 2 + hours of extras (detailed below). If you've listened to Coppola's commentaries on The Godfather Trilogy, you'd know the man reveals a slew of information about the films he's worked on, so definitely don't drop the ball on this, slacker.

Pretty in Pink (SE) - August 29

Say what you say, do what you do, I friggin' hate this movie. No apologies, it just doesn't rank up there for me. Although James Spader is muy-pimp and looks far too old to be in high school, he strangely seems like he hasn't aged at all. That's what you get for making a deal with the devil. What am I going on about? Check back for artwork as it becomes available, spanky.

Nobody puts Duckie in a corner. Except Jim Law.

Simpsons (S8) - August 15

The good times keep on rollin' in August. This time around, you get Maggie's fat head as the DVD case for Season 8, but to offset that, you get commentaries on every episode. Fox must be listening to you because they've really come through in the later seasons with bonus material. Note to Fox: Please remit payment to me in beer if possible. Thanks a bunch.

  • Commentaries with cast and crew on every episode

Curb Your Enthusiasm (S5) - August 1

Lastly, Larry David and his beady little eyes are shown in a very Being John Malkovich way on Season 5's new cover, and I love it! It's too bad there isn't more bonus features (only Episodic Previews and a Featurette here) but how can you not love the cover. Malkovich, Malkovich....

Napolean Dynamite (SE): Ten points for every emo kid wearing a "Vote for Pedro" t-shirt you poke with a stick. Thirty points if you repeatedly poke them in the eye with said stick. 5/16

The Ringer: Johnny Knoxville in the Special Olympics. "Fall down, go boom" ensues. 5/16

Crimson Tide (SE): "The Bruck" as he's known (nobody knows him as that) has three special editions being released. I now pronounce this day, "The Bruck Day". 5/16

Con Air (SE): Remember when the guy falls from the sky like that one black angel from that one movie? Ever see that flick? 5/16

Enemy of the State (SE): Reels you in with cameos by Jack Black and Jason Lee, steals your girlfriend with Will Smith running around in his underwear. 5/16
