The Ring Collector's Set - March 8

Well, surprise surprise! Not really. Looking to milk you out of your hard working scratch like my hillbilly neighbor does to his cat, this double disc "Collector's Edition" of the one PG-13 movie that scares the absolute shit out of me, contains such marginal extras such as:

  • A short film produced exclusively for this new set, "which tracks the mysterious journey of the videotape from The Ring to The Ring Two"
  • Never-before-seen making of The Ring featurette (because it was produced two weeks ago)
  • A closer look at Ringu, the international phenomenon that inspired The Ring
  • And More! (kill me)

If that weren't enough, you get a free movie ticket for THE RING 2 when it's released March 15th. Now, you'll only spend thirty bucks instead of the usual fifty or whatever it is.

High Roller: The Stu Ungar Story - March 15

Poker is so huge right now, why not produce some movies about it? Too bad, Rounders beat you all to the punch. Anyway, this one stars Christopher from The Sopranos as poker legend Stu Ungar and "chronicles Ungar’s tragic, downward spiral into womanizing, high-stakes gambling and drugs." Babes, booze, blow and big spending? Sweet, what a life! Sounds like the JoBlo New Years party. Only with pointy party hats and streamers. And no babes. Or anything else for that matter.

  • Feature-length commentary from writer-director A.W. Vidmer, star Michael Imperioli and poker expert Vince Van Patten
  • Music Video “Yesterday” by Marc Eric
  • 1.85:1 Anamorphic Widescreen
  • English Dolby Stereo and DTS 5.1 Surround

Star Trek: First Contact (SE) - March 15

Below are the buttload of specs for the two-disc First Contact Special Edition. Dudes who live in the parents' basement and only communicate through alien verbiage are totally trippin' over this.

Disc One:

  • Audio commentary with director Jonathan Frakes and screenwriters Brannon Braga and Ronald D. Moore
  • Text commentary by Michael and Denise Okuda.
Disc Two:
  • Jerry Goldsmith: A Tribute featurette
  • Legacy of Zefram Cochrane featurette
  • First Contact: The Possibilities featurette
  • Unimatrix One featurette
  • Featurette on the Borg Queen
  • Design Matrix featurette
  • First Contact Production section that includes featurettes on The Story, The Misile Silo, The Deflector Dish, The Art of First Contact
  • Featurette on the designs of the Enterprise as well as a making of documentary
  • Scene Deconstruction which features the Borg Queen Assembly, the Escape Pod launch and the Borg Queen's demise
  • Storyboards
  • Production gallery
  • Theatrical trailer and teaser trailer
  • 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer
  • English Dolby Digital 5.1 track

Christmas With The Kranks - March 8

I'm not sure what to make of this. The trailer looks horrendous and so does the pelican neck of Dan Ackroyd. But he's Elwood Blues so what can you do right? Anyway, preliminary specs for the flick include seperate anamorphic widescreen and full screen editions and not much else. Will update you on that if you're into that sort of thing, baby.

In the rhinoplasty office, Tim Allen made the mistake of ordering the Mickey Rourke.

Anchorman (Unrated): One of my favorite comedies...ever. Period. This Unrated edition should be a little gem. 12/28

Garden State: A definite blind buy if you haven't seen it. Anything with Natalie Portman is a blind buy. Except Star Wars. 12/28

Resident Evil: Apocalypse: Not a definite blind buy. Or rental. Unless you want to see Milla wrapped in a towel. Even then, do some "research" on the net. 12/28

Wicker Park: Crappity Crap-Crap-Crap. 12/28
