The Latest Announcements

Casino (SE) - June 14

I'm starting to get the sinking suspicion that this weekend's Oscar ceremony will be Marty Scorsese's night. Then again, I just ate a burrito so that sinking suspicion may be gas or something. Over the last year, we've had two different Scorsese DVD Collections released with, arguably, some of his best work, including a bunch of his early stuff with the occasional commentary thrown in. He's even been on Favreau's Dinner for Five show on IFC. Marty's not slowing down at all. No details have been provided for the bonus features as yet, but as a little side trivia, Joe Pesci's character in Casino was from the same neighborhood I grew up in. Only he grew up to be a wiseguy and I grew up to be a fat ass writing DVD columns. At least I'm not buried somewhere in Indiana.

"Of course I had my nails done today. You think they look nice like this on their own, you prick?"

Assault on Precinct 13 - May 10

Ethan Hawke as the new action "go to" guy? Weird. Don't be surprised if he signs on to a comic book superhero role. Anyway, not such a bad idea, he was damn good in Training Day.

  • Commentary with Director Jean-Francois Richet, screenwriter James DeMonaco and producer Jeffrey Silver
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Five Featurettes: Armed and Dangerous, Behind Precinct Walls, Plan of Attack, The Assault Team and Caught in the Crosshairs
  • 2.40:1 Anamorphic Widescreen

False information led to Ethan Hawke breaking down the door of a little girl's birthday party.

Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events - April 26

Tell the rug rats to stop bugging you about Lemony Snicket coming out on DVD. They're getting a whopper of DVD if they get the Special Edition two-disc set. Seeing as there's a lot of features on the double disc, you can claim that this will cover their birthday and Christmas gift. Cheap ass.

Ninja Scroll: The Series - May 10

Ninja Scroll is definitely an animated feature that you shouldn't watch around children, lest they think that it's perfectly acceptable to punch someone through a wall. The four disc set includes trailers, interviews, behind the scenes featurettes, commentaries, clan profiles, an action figure and a whole slew of other cool shit. Not to mention the cool ass tin box it comes in below. Yeah!
