A haunted box hexes teens in the new trailer and teaser poster for Wish Upon

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

What would you do if you found a magic box that would grant you seven wishes? Would you ask for something that would benefit all of mankind? Would you go the self-centered route and request personal wealth beyond your wildest dreams? I can think of a few things I'd like to magically augment about my life, but I'll keep those thoughts and dreams to myself for the time being.

For right now, we've got a brand-new trailer and teaser poster for John R. Leonetti's WISH UPON, a teen-centric fantasy horror flick that begs you to be careful what you wish for.

Here's the official synopsis for the film:

Twelve years after discovering her mother's suicide, 17-year-old CLARE SHANNON (Joey King) is bullied in high school, embarrassed by her manic, hoarder father JONATHAN (Ryan Phillippe) and ignored by her longtime crush. All that changes when her father comes home with an old music box whose inscription promises to grant its owner seven wishes. While Clare is initially skeptical of this magic box, she can't help but be seduced by its dark powers, and is thrilled as her life radically improves with each wish. Clare finally has the life she's always wanted and everything seems perfect – until the people closest to her begin dying in violent and elaborate ways after each wish. Clare realizes that she must get rid of the box, but finds herself unable and unwilling to part with her new-and-improved life – leading her down a dark and dangerous path.

Personally, I think I'll be skipping this one. The angst-ridden teen revenge vibe doesn't exactly gel with me, though I am happy to see that Hi Hong Lee from the MAZE RUNNER and UNBREAKABLE KIMMY SCHMIDT series is moving onto other projects. There's something about that dude, I just like him. The good news is that we won't have long to wait before the film reaches theaters, and we get to witness what manner of destruction Clare's desires wreak on those around her.

WISH UPON will be granted a release in theaters beginning on July 14, 2017.
