New posters for DC’s Shazam! want you to say the word

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Yesterday, Warner Bros. and DC comics debuted a new comic-style poster for SHAZAM! courtesy of Brazil Comic-Con (CCPX). The gorgeously illustrated poster features Billy Batson's (Asher Angel) transformation into the magical superhero Shazam! (Zachary Levi). As both characters merge amidst a plume of smoke and bolts of yellow lightning, there's a distinct look of glee on their faces, which serves as a refreshing reminder that Shazam! is not one of the comic book giant's more brood-tastic heroes.

The second poster comes courtesy of the Warner Bros. themselves, and shows Levi's Shazam! lounging comfortably against a wall, snapping bubble gum and playing on his phone. How much do you want to bet that Shazam! plays Fortnite? I'd put money on it, for sure.

You can check out both posters for yourself below:

Here's the logline for SHAZAM!:

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson's (Asher Angel) case, by shouting only one word — SHAZAM! — this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Zachary Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard (Djimon Hounsou). Still a kid at heart — inside a ripped, godlike body — Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he'll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong).

Directing DC's kid-turned-superhero adventure is David F. Sandberg (LIGHTS OUT, ANNABELLE: CREATION). Starring in the film alongside Angel and Levi is Mark Strong as the villainous Dr. Thaddeus Sivana, Djimon Hounsou as the ancient wizard named Shazam!, Grace Fulton as Mary Bromfield, Jack Dylan Grazer as Frederick “Freddy” Freeman, Ian Chen as Eugene Choi, Jovan Armand as Pedro Peña, Faithe Herman as Darla Dudley, Cooper Andrews as Victor Vásquez and Marta Milans as Rosa Vásquez.

SHAZAM! is set to burst onto the cinematic comic book scene in theaters on April 5, 2019.
