A tease for The Haunting of Hill House Season 2 leaves the Crains in peace

Now that Mike Flanagan's THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE has arrived on Netflix to much acclaim, fans of the spine-tingling, family-focused drama can't help but wonder if we'll ever see a sequel to the dread-inducing series. Personally, I loved damn-near every aspect of Flanagan's new show, with the overly-ambitious "Two Storms" episode being among one of my favorite small screen offerings of all time. Thankfully, those left wondering about the fate of the series can look to a recent interview conducted by Entertainment Weekly, where Flanagan talked a myriad of details about the spooky series, including his plan for a potential second season.

When asked about if there could be a Season 2 for THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE, Mike Flanagan revealed to EW the following:

"I don’t want to speculate too much about season two until Netflix and Paramount and Amblin let us know if they want one. What I will say, though, is that as far as I’ve ever been concerned with this, the story of the Crain family is told. It’s done. I think that there are all sorts of different directions we could go in, with the house or with something completely different. I love the idea of an anthology as well. But to me, I felt like the Crains have been through enough, and we left them exactly as we all wanted to remember them, those of us who worked on it. We toyed with a cliffhanger ending and we toyed with other ideas, but ultimately, in the writers’ room and with the cast and everything else, we really felt like the story demanded a certain kind of closure from us and we were happy to close the book on that family.

That said, I think more than anything, the show is about haunted places and haunted people, as Steve says, and there’s no shortage of either. So, there’s any number of things we could do, in or out of Hill House."

Personally, I think it's a wise decision to leave the Crains behind, should Flanagan and his team be tasked with creating another season of this unforgettable show. Perhaps a good way to go would be to present the origin of the house that was born bad, or even a "several years later" set up, with the story of the Craines reduced to nothing more than an urban legend. While I admit that there's a part of me that would like for THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE to be a one-and-done experience, I trust that Flanagan will be capable of delivering another terrifying tale, should another season be officially announced.
