Abrams robs diamonds

After spending a lot of time and energy sending Jennifer Garner and Tom Cruise to creatively swipe various objects, JJ Abrams must have become infatuated with how to procure valuables while circumventing technology and the law.

The STAR TREK helmer has snatched rights to an impending Wired magazine article called “The Untold Story of the World’s Biggest Diamond Heist,” by Joshua Davis. The piece tells of a 2003 heist in which “a small group of Italian thieves miraculously circumvented 10 layers of security to access a vault beneath the Antwerp Diamond Center and make off with a purported $100 million in diamonds, gold and jewelry.”

Abrams is producing through his Bad Robot company and may also direct the eventual film. Aside from what he delivers on shows like “LOST” and “FRINGE”, he’s obviously into real-life weirdness too — besides the heist story, Abrams is also planning a project about that bizarre New York “puzzle box” apartment.
