Adams makes Promise

As director John Hillcoat continues to impress people with his adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s THE ROAD, he’s looking to set up his next film, an adaptation of Matt Bondurant’s “The Wettest County in the World.” The original scoop was that Shia LaBeouf, Ryan Gosling and Scarlett Johansson were all attached to the film and that seems partly correct. Collider saw a promo poster for the production at AFM and it reveals the film has a new title and a new star.

The poster reveals a title of THE PROMISED LAND and would seem to indicate that while LaBeouf and Gosling are still aboard, Johansson is no longer involved and has been replaced by Amy Adams. The project would star LaBeouf and Gosling as brothers wrapped up in Depression-era prohibition bootlegging but it’s unclear what role Adams would be playing as, near as I can tell, there’s no major female role in the book. The film is still very much up in the air as financing is still underway but it certainly looks like an Oscar-frontrunner just on paper (though I hate it when people start Oscar forecasting based solely on pedigree alone).
