Alex Garland’s Annihilation is coming to Digital, Blu-ray & DVD this May

It's been announced that Alex Garland's highly-acclaimed science fiction drama ANNIHILATION is crossing over and into the home market beginning on May 22nd, when the evocative film arrives via digital services. Following the release of the digital version of the movie will be the Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD options from Paramount Home Media Distribution on May 29th.

From the director of EX MACHINA comes the story of biologist and former soldier Lena (Natalie Portman), who becomes shocked when her missing husband (Oscar Isaac) comes home near death from a top-secret mission into The Shimmer, a mysterious quarantine zone no one has ever returned from. Now, Lena and her elite team must enter a beautiful, deadly world of mutated landscapes and creatures, to discover how to stop the growing phenomenon that threatens all life on Earth.  The film also stars Jennifer Jason Leigh (THE HATEFUL EIGHT), Gina Rodriguez (JANE THE VIRGIN), Tessa Thompson (THOR: RAGNAROK), and Tuva Novotny (EAT PRAY LOVE).

When the ANNIHILATION Blu-ray Combo Pack arrives. it will include over an hour of bonus content. As a part of the bells and whistles for the release, Natalie Portman, director Alex Garland and other members of the cast and crew will take viewers behind the scenes for a deeper look inside the film’s stunts, elaborate set design and mesmerizing visual effects. There's also some sweet sound design options on the Blu-ray as well, including a Dolby Atmos soundtrack remixed specifically for the home to place and move audio anywhere in the room, including overhead. Imagine that, the Shimmer Bear snuffling above your head and behind your ear. Ugh, creepy.

The DVD version will present the film in widescreen enhanced for 16:9 televisions with English 5.1 Dolby Audio. In other words, standard definition. Oh DVD, your format is truly going the way of the dodo. You've had a good run, my friend.

Will you be picking up a copy of ANNIHILATION to own? Personally, I think Garland's film is one of the best science fiction dramas of the past decade, and I can't wait to watch it again in glorious HD coupled with blow-your-hair-back sound.
