Who was found to fill the shoes of the heavily-rumored villain for Thor: The Dark World?

Christopher Eccleston wide

Christopher Eccleston is a name you may know from any number of places, be they 28 DAYS LATER, G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA, or "Dr. Who."  And if you do know the name Christopher Eccleston, then you'll also know that 1) he's an extremely talented and versatile performer and 2) that we're very lucky indeed to have scored him to play the villain in THOR: THE DARK WORLD.

Eccleston will, as has been heavily rumored for some time, take on the role of "Malekith The Accursed... the ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim. In the Marvel Comics, he clashed mightily with Thor, and will go up against the hammer-wielding son of Odin" when THOR: THE DARK WORLD at last arrives on November 8th, 2013.

As much as I was saddened by the loss of Mads Mikkelsen, I must admit that I actually couldn't be happier with this news if Malekith himself came to life to play the part. What about you?

Extra Tidbit: As much as I think Tom Hiddleston makes for a brilliant villain, I also hope that he has a different character arc this time than generally screwing up Thor's life due to jealousy, rage, and sorrow. We've seen that story twice now, and I'm very curious as to what new routes his character might take in THE DARK WORLD.
