Andy Samberg and Rashida Jones to play divorced couple in Celeste and Jesse

FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS and I LOVE YOU, MAN co-stars Andy Samberg and Rashida Jones are set to reteam for the romantic dramedy CELESTE AND JESSE FOREVER, which Jones also co-wrote. If you think it’ll be the usual romp you get with two NBC comedy stars, don’t get your hopes up. The film follows a couple who gets divorced and attempts to remain friends and is expected to be more dramatic than anything Samberg has previously worked on.

Jones and co-writer Will McCormack have been working on the script for years, hoping to get an adult, female-oriented look at relationships off the ground (this was before BRIDESMAIDS). Jones describes the film as a slightly more dramatic version of a Judd Apatow movie, though Apatow is not involved with this film.

If you’re looking for a template on what to expect with the film, rent 2009’s THE VICIOUS KIND. That film’s director, Lee Toland Krieger, will step behind the camera for CELESTE AND JESSE and his previous film starred some comedic actors (Adam Scott) in a dramatic story about love.

Sandler has a busy post-SNL schedule with this film, an indie comedy with Bill Hader and I HATE YOU, DAD with Adam Sandler. CELESTE is expected to film first with the Sandler comedy shooting later in the summer.
