Another delay for The Dark Tower as the release is pushed back once again

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Fans of "The Dark Tower" have been waiting years to see Stephen King's saga realized on the big screen, but now, they're going to have to wait a little longer, albeit, not much. THE DARK TOWER was originally set to hit theaters in February 2017, but was later pushed back to July 28, 2017. Now, according to Entertainment Weekly, that date has been pushed back yet again to August 4, 2017.

Not too long of a wait, but if you're looking for someone to blame, you can direct your glares towards THE EMOJI MOVIE. Per EW, THE EMOJI MOVIE switched places with THE DARK TOWER, and although the studio declined to comment, the move apparently has to do with giving THE EMOJI MOVIE more "summertime screening time before school returned to session and less to do with The Dark Tower, which won’t be as reliant on young viewers." Fair enough. I suppose we'll have to wait for the official word on this and keep our fingers crossed that this will be the final time THE DARK TOWER is pushed back.

We've yet to have seen an official trailer for the film, but Sony did debut a slightly unfinished trailer at CinemaCon, where our own Editor-in-Chief Paul Shirey was on-hand to offer up his opinion. Even in its incomplete state, Paul called the trailer "sharp as hell" and "very much in the fantasy realm." If nothing else, Paul said that THE DARK TOWER looks like it will be quite a bit of fun as well as a "terrific badass-in-the-making role for [Idris] Elba, who is long overdue for something like this."
