Are You Afraid of the Dark? set to spook moviegoers in October 2019

Paramount has announced that they'll be sending something wicked your way when the film adaptation of Nickelodeon's ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK? arrives in theaters on October 11, 2019.

Presented as an teen-rated horror anthology series, ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK? was created by D.J. MacHale and Ned Kandel and aired first as a part of Nickelodeon's SNICK showcase between the years 1992 and 1996. Ushering viewers into a world filled with frightful stories, ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK? centered on a group of teens who called themselves "The Mystery Society." Each week, the group would gather around a roaring campfire in the woods to share scary stories with one another. In 1999, the show was revived for a total of two additional seasons with new writers and showrunners attached.

Writing the script for the new film will be Gary Dauberman, who co-wrote the Andy Muschietti-directed reboot of Stephen King's IT. Additionally, Dauberman is also penning the Chapter 2 sequel to the killer clown horror story with Jeffrey Jurgensen.

Wow. So this movie is really happening, huh? And not only that, it looks as if it's got some real creative firepower behind it as well. With Dauberman on board, I'm very curious to see just how scary things get for this interesting adaptation. If all goes well, we could be looking at a legitimately frightening horror film aimed at young adults.
