Avatar gameplay

The folks behind the AVATAR game are determined to break the longstanding tradition of “all movie-based games must suck.” That’s why, as you’ll see in this gameplay trailer, they’ve combined “Lost Planet” with “Gears of War” and “Crysis” to get something that resembles a decently passable game.

It’s a third person actioner, with intermittent vehicle segments. We only see the human side of things here, but it’s clear the Na’vi are playable as well. I still can’t get over shooting rainbow colored forrest creatures  until they bleed rainbow colored blood. It’s like going to Fraggle Rock and mowing down the entire crew with an M16.

From the trailer you’ll learn that the best way to deal with a few small enemies is to call in a massive airstrike, and the best way to kill a giant flamboyant rhino dinosaur is to shoot it in the ass repeatedly. Who would have thought?

It looks good…for a movie game, but that’s as far as I’m willing to go at this point. And with “ODST,” “Modern Warfare 2,” “Borderlands” and “Assassin’s Creed 2” all coming out this fall, I can’t say this is exactly high on my priority list at the moment.
