Bill Paxton to join Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for four-episode arc

Well drop your linen and start your grinnin’!

Looks like the legendary Bill Paxton will be lending his “swagger” to Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for a four-episode arc as Agent John Garrett, a former colleague of Agent Coulson’s who will assist the team in their mission endeavors. “We wanted to bring in a rough-and-tumble former cohort of Agent Coulson with a little bit of attitude and cigar-smoking swagger,” says writer/producer Jed Whedon. “When Garrett got his promotion to Level 7, he refused to sit behind a desk and doesn’t like the formalities of S.H.I.E.L.D. He’s going to help Coulson solve some mysteries and is not afraid to rig an explosive or two.”

Paxton’s Garrett will “work alongside agents Ward (Brett Dalton) and May (Ming-Na Wen)” and “comes into the fold in a very surprising way.  He is the type who wants to stay out in the field no matter how high-level he gets,” says executive producer Maurissa Tancharoen.

Comic fans will know Garrett, created by Frank Miller (SIN CITY) and artist Bill Sienkiewicz, from his appearance in the Elektra: Assassin mini-series where he was injured in an explosion and rebuilt by ExTechOp, eventually allying himself with the crimson-garbed assassin to fight the ninja clan known as The Hand. Could this mean that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be tying in those roots or is it a sign that they’re folding in more of the characters from the comics to punch up the series? Fans have been fuming for more comic-related characters, so perhaps this is a step in the right direction. I mean, shit, it’s Bill Paxton. I may be tuning in for those episodes…

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is on Tuesdays at 8 pm. We’ll see more cinematic renderings of the agency when CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER hits on April 4, 2014.
