Brad Bird’s next film will be 1952, not 1906

Brad Bird will return to Disney for his next film, the big budget epic 1952. What is 1952? No one knows.

Here is what we do know: the screenplay for 1952 was written by Damon Lindelof and Jeff Jensen. Disney commissioned the film last year and is aiming to begin production in 2013. The film is being kept very quiet with the only clue being that ‘it has multi-platform aspirations.’

Bird recently declined to return to direct the fifth MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE despite the huge success of GHOST PROTOCOL. His epic about the San Francisco Earthquake, 1906, is still a passion project for him but is having budgeting concerns.

Lindelof has recently become the go to screenwriter after being the creative force behind LOST. He has cowritten both PROMETHEUS as well as the upcoming STAR TREK sequel.

In this day and age, it is very difficult to keep a movie secret for very long. In the few instances where it has been successful (CLOVERFIELD and SUPER 8, come to mind), it enhances the movie-going experience. Fans may still feel alienated that it was not what they were expecting, but it definitely harkens back to the pre-Internet days of marketing movies.

What do you think 1952 could be?
