Bridesmaids’ Melissa McCarthy gets two new leading roles

I hope a good chunk of you went out and saw BRIDESMAIDS this weekend, as it’s a great film for any gender and undeniably hilarious for any audience.

Kristen Wiig did a great job, but I also was impressed with Melissa McCarthy, seen above, who I thought took on a kind of Chris Farley/Zach Galifianakis role in a way that I haven’t seen too many females attempt before. Her lines were great, her physical comedy hilarious and she’s the movies unsung star.

Well, it turns out she might start being sung a bit more. She’s working on two new projects that actually have her starring in the lead role. Reteaming with BRIDESMAIDS co-writer Annie Mumolo, she’s attempting to craft a film based around a woman determined to steal the Stanley Cup for her sick husband, played by McCarthy’s ACTUAL husband, Ben Falcone, who also appears opposite her in BRIDESMAIDS (John from the plane).

The second project doesn’t have any details attached, but BRIDESMAIDS’ director Paul Feig is setting up an additional project for her to start in.

I say this news is pretty damn cool. Obviously Melissa is far from the Hollywood beauty norm, but if Jack Black can get his own films, why can’t someone like her?
