Cameron on B. Angel

My head is spinning from all the rumors swirling around James Cameron’s next project. A few days ago it was a remake of THE FANTASTIC VOYAGE, a day before that, a space samurai epic “event” film. But now we’re back to one we’ve been hearing about for a while now, BATTLE ANGEL, now apparently expanding its title to BATTLE ANGEL ALITA.

Cameron recently talked to MTV about what’s going on with the project, and it seems to be a lot further along than any of those other rumored films, as it's about a year into production already. It’s not certain if it’s actually his “next” per se, but after reading about it a few months ago, I have to say that I really, truly hope it is. Here’s what he had to say:

"The mixture of live-action and CG is a little trickier in 3-D than it is 2-D," Cameron told MTV News. "Now we see it's good to have done 'Avatar' first before 'Battle Angel,' because the tricky scenes are where you're blending live-action photography, stereoscopic photography and CG."

"Shooting live stuff in 3-D and then adding CG characters and landscapes beyond that, that's a little tricky," he explained.

As for where the film stands, Cameron seemed to indicate that "Alita" is still on his radar — though he hasn't progressed to the point of casting the film thus far.

"We're not that far down the line," he said. "We have a very good script and we've done a lot of production design. We've done about a year of production design and we've put together an art reel that shows the arc of the film."

"It's pretty much just add water and we're ready to go," he laughed.

Head to MTV to see him say all this and more on video.

Extra Tidbit: Something isn't right with all these rumors. Cameron doesn't make a movie for 12 years and then all of a sudden has three new films and two AVATAR sequels in the works? I'm not buying it.
