Growing up, Fix-It Felix Jr. was far from my favorite arcade game. Honestly, it just wasn’t my style.  I played it a few times, mostly when the other games were taken.  And it was alright.  I know, I know, it’s a “classic” and all that, but I don’t know.  Maybe I was spoiled, maybe I was corrupted by contemporary games or what have you, but I couldn’t get into it.

But Sugar Rush? Now that was a game.  Heck, I still play it with my friends frequently.  Actually, because we’ve all moved apart it’s really only the one friend now, but that’s fine! The game is still somehow as fun as it was when I first played it all those years ago back in the late ’90s.  I guess you could say that it’s addictive, but not in the grinding/reward and punishment way that many current games (especially MMOs) are.  It’s fun to play, simple as that.  And fun to play with friends.  It was always more about the social experience, and the joy of sharing something so simply fun and strangely special.  What with the way the world is and all these days, that sort of thing can be awfully hard to come by.

For me, there’s not much to say about Hero’s Duty.  That’s another one to enjoy with friends, but the marathon sessions are a thing of the past and it isn’t much my style anymore.  Sure I’ll play it if a friend asks, and I’ll have fun because I’m playing it with them and it’s very much a different kind of challenge than Sugar Rush.  But I’ll even love it in the moment, but once we’re done I’m not exactly rushing (so to speak) to get back in the fray.

But maybe that’s just me – what about you? Where do your tastes lie these days?
