Chloë Grace Moretz bucks fantasy norms in Red Shoes & the 7 Dwarfs trailer

Locus Animation has unveiled an official trailer for RED SHOES & THE SEVEN DWARFS, a new take on the Snow White fairy tale that's bound to turn some heads later this year. Directed and written by TREE ROBO producer Sung-ho Hong, the above trailer is a far cry from the footage we saw back in June of 2017, which included a scene of Snow stripping in front of a gathering of dwarf onlookers who'd been hiding beneath her bed. What? You think I'm kidding? Well, what if I told you that I've got the screenshots to prove it?

Yeah, it was like that.

At the time of the 2017 trailer release, Moretz took to her personal Twitter account to apologize for the salacious imagery, saying "I have now fully reviewed the marketing for Red Shoes. I am just as appalled and angry as everyone else, this wasn't approved by me or my team."

She then posted a follow-up tweet assuring animation fans that "The actual story is powerful for young women and resonated with me. I am sorry for the offense that was beyond my creative control." She then added, "Pls know I have let the producers of the film know. I lent my voice to a beautiful script that I hope you will ass see in its entirety."

With that bit of mess seemingly in the film's rear-view, the new trailer for RED SHOES & THE SEVEN DWARFS cleverly skirts around the plot element of a pair of magical shoes transforming a plus-sized Snow into a model-thin vision that's sure to be the desire of every prince in the kingdom. The film also looks to have traded the dwarves Caucasian skin-tone for that of a sickly green color. While the reason for the change remains unclear at this time, I would bet all the poison apples in Grimm's timeless tales that it has something to do with a nasty spell that's been cast on the bumbling group of adventurers.

Despite having a rough beginning, I must admit that the film looks to be shaping up quite nicely. Let's hope that there aren't more cringe-worthy articles waiting in the wings, and that Locus Animation wows audiences when the film arrives in theaters.

Here's the official synopsis for RED SHOES & THE SEVEN DWARFS:
