Chris Hemsworth goes full Cast Away for Ron Howard’s In The Heart of the Sea

Ron Howard‘s latest feature, IN THE HEART OF THE SEA, follows Owen Chase (Chris Hemsworth) and his crew as they are stranded at sea for 90 days due to a vindictive sperm whale. This flick is based on the story that inspired Moby Dick . . . so there’s that. As you can imagine, living out at sea for 3 months changes a man, and Hemsworth took to Twitter to show off his sweet, MACHINIST-esque bod that he acquired for the flick.

Just tried a new diet/training program called “Lost At Sea”. Wouldn’t recommend it..

The latest trailers paint a pretty epic picture of the kind of old-timey maritime adventures cinema is sorely lacking. The PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN flicks have their moments, but I’m much more into these quasi-realistic takes on sea stories. Especially when you take into consideration what we can accomplish with today’s technology and talent. Ron Howard doesn’t always hit, but he’s more than competent to breathe life into this adventure. At the very least, it’s something to TIDE us over until STAR WARS gets here.

IN THE HEART OF THE SEA opens in theaters on December 11, 2015.
