Christoph Waltz says his Blofeld was “okay” & doesn’t know if he’ll be back

Daniel Craig’s Bond movies have been hit and miss, to put it lightly: CASINO ROYALE is a stunning action flick, worthy of being placed in the character’s top five outings; QUANTUM OF SOLACE…has some cool action scenes; SKYFALL is—not simply by the standards of the action genre—a tremendous movie; and SPECTRE…has some cool action scenes. So, if we’re just going by formula, the next Bond movie should be extraordinary. Sadly, we have no idea when another movie will happen.

There have been rumors of recasting the infamous spy, but also some that Craig has been offered as high as $150 million to do two more movies, but there’s no word on if any of it is true. Though that may be a hint at where the franchise is heading, recent Bond baddie Christoph Waltz (who played Blofeld in SPECTRE) said the cat is still up in the air, during an interview with German magazine Zeit-Magazin Mann (via The Playlist):

“Right now, nobody even knows which studio will produce the next and if Daniel will return. All of that is filed under ‘carry on,’ ”

If that bit about the studio sounds confusing, remember that a year ago it was announced the contract between MGM and Sony for the rights to the Bond franchise had expired, with rights possibly shifting to Warner Bros. So before Bond can return he has to find a home. As for Waltz, even he isn’t so sure he will be joining the English spy at wherever he ends up.

“I don’t know about that [returning as Blofeld]. Nobody knows. It wasn’t talked about, except in the press.”

As for his reflection on playing the dastardly villain:

“I cannot claim that I’ve really nailed Blofeld. Overall, it held water and was okay. But it wasn’t what I’ve been looking for. I was searching for more inspiration.”

It seems like Waltz may not return to the world of Bond even if he was offered another shot at playing the baddie. As for another Bond movie in general, it looks like it comes down to which studio will release the movie and whether Craig will return. I would love to see Waltz return as Blofeld, and if he didn't really standout as a villain it was because he really didn't have a whole lot of screen time until the end. Given more room to play I'm confidant he could give us something really interesting. I mean, this is Col. Hans Landa we're talking about. Anyway, we will know more once the corporate politics are out of the way, which for all we know could be a little too long of a wait for some involved. Does anyone have Tom Hiddleston’s number?
