Cloudy 2: Revenge of the Leftovers gets a bizarre plot synopsis and reveals new cast-members

CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS was a movie I got for my kids because I was tired of watching CARS over and over again. I had low expectations for it. Not only did the movie shatter those preconceived notions, but it added another movie to my parenting arsenal to ingratiate my kids into pop culture. The original featured Mr. T and Bruce Campbell. Since I couldn’t show my toddlers ROCKY III or THE EVIL DEAD, this was their indoctrination into geekdom.

I was pleasantly suprised to learn a sequel was being made. But, until today we only had the title CLOUDY 2: REVENGE OF THE LEFTOVERS as any indication that the movie was coming soon. Today, Sony Pictures Animation revealed a full plot synopsis for the movie as well as a couple of new cast members to the 3D comedy.

Plot: CLOUDY 2: REVENGE OF THE LEFTOVERS picks up where CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS left off. Inventor Flint Lockwood’s genius is finally being recognized as he’s invited by his idol Chester V (Will Forte of Saturday Night Live) to join The Live Corp Company, where the best and brightest inventors in the world create technologies for the betterment of mankind. Chester’s right-hand-gal – and one of his greatest inventions – is Barb (Kristen Schaal of Toy Story 3 and 30 Rock), a highly evolved orangutan with a human brain, who is also devious, manipulative and likes to wear lipstick.

It’s always been Flint’s dream to be recognized as a great inventor, but everything changes when he discovers that his most infamous machine – which turns water into food – is still operating and is now creating mutant food beasts. With the fate of humanity in his hands, Flint and his friends must embark on a dangerously delicious mission, battling hungry tacodiles, shrimpanzees, apple pie-thons, double bacon cheespiders and other food creatures to save the world… again!

Will Forte voiced a character in the first movie, but it will be nice to see him in an expanded role. Kristen Schaal is hilarious, so having these two comic vets join Bill Hader, Anna Faris, James Caan, Andy Samberg, Benjamin Bratt, Terry Crews (replacing Mr. T), and Neil Patrick Harris should deliver some genuine laughs.

CLOUDY 2: REVENGE OF THE LEFTOVERS will be produced by the original film’s directors, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. This movie is directed by first-timers Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn. The movie will hit theaters on February 17, 2014.
