Colin Trevorrow says Jurassic World 3 won’t feature any more hybrid dinos

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Those genetic wizards at InGen spliced and diced the genetic traits of multiple species in order to create something truly horrifying in JURASSIC WORLD, and the upcoming JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM will follow in those footsteps with another terrifying hybrid dinosaur – the Indoraptor. However, by the time JURASSIC WORLD 3 rolls around, those hybrid dinos will be no more, as director Colin Trevorrow told Total Film that they will be taking a "back to basics" approach with the final film in the JURASSIC WORLD trilogy.

I’m looking forward to, in the third film, getting a little back into the Paleontological, wild animal, true dinosaur nature of all of it.

Colin Trevorrow added that the Indorapter in JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM will be the last hybrid dinosaur of the trilogy. That "back to basics" approach chimes with what the director said last month, when he revealed that the third film will be closer in tone to Steven Spielberg's 1993 JURASSIC PARK than either JURASSIC WORLD or JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM. "If I could contextualize each film, I would say Jurassic World was an action adventure, Fallen Kingdom is kind of a horror suspense film, and Jurassic World 3 will be a science thriller in the same way that Jurassic Park was," said the director. Colin Trevorrow is currently scripting JURASSIC WORLD 3 along with Emily Carmichael (PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING), and although he wouldn't spill any details, he did say that although the final film will still feature Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard), there's "other characters who we’ll meet in Fallen Kingdom you’ll realize are major characters."

The official synopsis of JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM:

It’s been four years since theme park and luxury resort Jurassic World was destroyed by dinosaurs out of containment.  Isla Nublar now sits abandoned by humans while the surviving dinosaurs fend for themselves in the jungles.   When the island’s dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event.  Owen is driven to find Blue, his lead raptor who’s still missing in the wild, and Claire has grown a respect for these creatures she now makes her mission.  Arriving on the unstable island as lava begins raining down, their expedition uncovers a conspiracy that could return our entire planet to a perilous order not seen since prehistoric times.   With all of the wonder, adventure and thrills synonymous with one of the most popular and successful series in cinema history, this all-new motion-picture event sees the return of favorite characters and dinosaurs—along with new breeds more awe-inspiring and terrifying than ever before.

JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM will hit theaters on June 22, 2018, with JURASSIC WORLD 3 set for a June 11, 2021 release.
