Cool Videos: The history of movie trailers in fifteen minutes!

Around these parts movie trailers are gold, and they’ve become a staple in the filmgeek community. Hell, even your average moviegoer tends to love the trailers (when they aren’t complaining about too many of them before the movie). The art of the trailer has evolved throughout a long period of time to get where it is now and it’s interesting to look back and examine that process. In this 15-minute retrospective on the evolution of trailers, from the very first one in 1913 up to today, we see how (and why) they began, the various styles used to showcase them, and how they’ve impacted the industry, becoming a sort of genre of film unto themselves. Even if you’re already well versed on the origin and evolution of movie trailers this is a fun and interesting look at how they came to be.
