Craven’s next remakes!

Last night, Universal threw a little shindig in LA to celebrate their upcoming release of THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT. While I sat here in New Jersey and cursed at DirecTV for losing satellite signal just as “Lost” was about to start, our sister site Arrow in the Head was crashing the party, checking out the flick and hanging with Wes Craven.

Now while everyone else was up Craven’s ass about SCREAM 4, they got some word on some other Craveny projects you might not have heard about yet. LAST HOUSE, as I’m sure you’re aware, is a remake of a film Craven directed way back in 1972 when I was negative years old. So the conversation naturally turned to other films of his that might get the remake treatment. Says Craven:

“We’re actually talking about remaking THE PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS. Possibly SHOCKER also….PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS and SHOCKER, although we don’t own them, Universal owns them but we have rights with Universal… So if we all say yes we can do it. Universal can’t go off and make them with somebody else. So we’re talking about doing that now.”

SHOCKER was kinda B-level entertainment and while I enjoyed it on VHS back in 1990, I’m not sure how well that would translate into the latest trend of more realistic horror. I mean the film follows a guy who turns into an energy source after being electrocuted. But THE PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS was a way underrrated thriller that could really be adapted into a pretty tense remake. I’d much rather have either of these two films than a NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET remake, that’s for sure… Click here to head to AITH to read more about these remakes and Craven’s thoughts on his upcoming film 25/8!
