Danny McBride in talks to join the cast of Ridley Scott's Alien: Covenant

Maybe the one thing that the ALIEN franchise has been missing these past few films has been a helping of Mr. Kenny Powers. Production on ALIEN: COVENANT is set to begin fairly soon, but Ridley Scott is still in the process of casting and The Wrap has the scoop on some very unexpected casting news.

The outlet reports that Danny McBride is in early discussions to join the cast of ALIEN: COVENANT in an unspecified role. It's not a done deal yet, but Danny McBride and Ridley Scott are both big cinephiles and it's been said that they've been hitting it off while discussing old movies. If Danny McBride does become a part of the ALIEN: COVENANT cast, he'll join Michael Fassbender and Katherine Waterston (INHERENT VICE), with the latter playing Daniels, the series' new female lead as Ridley Scott has confirmed that Noomi Rapace will not be returning for the PROMETHEUS sequel. I honestly can't imagine Danny McBride in a film like this, but stranger things have happened and this would give the actor a chance to dip his toes into something a little different.

A synopsis for ALIEN: COVENANT:

Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world -- whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

ALIEN: COVENANT is set for a October 6, 2017 release.
