Dave Bautista says that James Gunn will be making Guardians Vol. 2 different

Getting a sequel to a hugely popular film off the ground is always a daunting challenge; not just because you need to live up to the first film's reception, but you also need to avoid simply retreading what you've done before. After GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY turned out to be even more successful than Marvel had hoped, it was only natural that a sequel would soon follow. Dave Bautista (Drax the Destroyer) spoke with Comic Book and revealed a recent exchange he had with GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 director James Gunn:

When I asked him before, coming off the success of Guardians of the Galaxy, I knew the pressure was on him to make it better, and I asked him, 'How are you going to top this? How are you going to make it better?' He said, 'No, I’m going to make it different.'

However, Dave Bautista couldn't tell you how different the film will be as he's so far refused to read the script for the GUARDIANS sequel. Despite being offered a look at the sequel's second draft, Bautista turned it down as he doesn't want to read it "until it’s ready to go," and also to avoid accidentally giving something away during interviews. Probably a good call. In addition, Dave Bautista just wants to keep that magic of not knowing going a little while longer.

To be honest with you, when I read the script of Guardians, it almost put a damper on it. First and foremost, I’m a fan, and the second I know what’s going to happen it kind of takes away from the magic a little bit! I honestly think that if I asked James, he would tell me, but I haven’t asked him. I always think that if they’re not telling you, there’s a reason they’re not telling you. So I almost don’t want to know, because I want to be surprised! I’ll probably know before the finished product, obviously, though." He did mention that while he didn't want to know from being told, "that doesn't mean I'm not curious!"

Bautista's curiosity will be satiated soon enough as he's already visited Pinewood Studios for some make-up and screen tests for the sequel. GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 opens on May 5, 2017.
