Director Rupert Wyatt and Mark Wahlberg may team up for remake of The Gambler

I’ve got another remake for you guys, and it might be one that you don’t mind seeing an update for.

Paramount has been developing another go at 1974’s THE GAMBLER which originally starred James Caan. The flick centered on Caan as “a college professor whose gambling addiction overcomes him even after he gets in big trouble with the wrong guys.”

The studio is apparently quick to get this remake going, and a potential director and star are currently circling. Mark Wahlberg is looking to get into the part of Axel Freed once played by the great Caan. Then there’s RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES helmer Rupert Wyatt who might find himself in the directors chair. William Monahan (THE DEPARTED) is in charge of scripting the drama.

The remake was once set up with Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio but I see that fell through. Would you rather see those two team up for this? Or are you up for Wyatt and Wahlberg?
