Disney confirms the future release of stand-alone Star Wars films

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Ever since we heard the news of STAR WARS: EPISODE VII, it just keeps coming and coming. Your second story from a galaxy far, far away has to do with the standalone films that will be released between episodes.

Disney CEO Bob Iger appeared on CNBC and confirmed the news. The only news he didn’t seem to confirm was what we posted earlier today about Yoda being the focal point of the first standalone.

This is what Iger had to say: “I can confirm to you today that in fact we are working on a few standalone films, Larry Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are both working on films derived from great Star Wars characters that are not part of the overall saga. We still plan to make Star Wars 7, 8, and 9 roughly over a six-year period of time, starting in 2015. But there are going to be a few other films released in that period, too.”

He also went on to add that Kasdan is consulting with J.J. Abrams, who as we all know is attached to direct the next STAR WARS episode.
