Dodgeball! Sequel to the Ben Stiller/Vince Vaughn comedy moves forward

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Don’t get too excited just yet, but the word from THR is that screenwriter Clay Tarver (JOYRIDE) has been hired to pen a sequel to the 2004 comedy hit, DODGEBALL: A TRUE UNDERDOG STORY, which starred Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn. Story details are under wraps, but the script is said to have “Vaughn and Stiller forced to team up to fight an even bigger threat,” which sounds like a perfectly plausible direction to go.

I had a blast with DODGEBALL and feel it’s one of the few comedies where everyone’s character worked. It was nice to see Stiller play against type as well, playing the not-so-bright villain and leader of the GloboGym Purple Cobras vs. Vaughn’s team of misfit Average Joes. It’s one of those comedies you can settle into anytime.

No word on whether original director Marshall Rawson Thurber would be involved, but since Stiller’s Red Hour is teaming up with Fox on the sequel you can at least wager that Stiller is onboard. Hopefully, they can get the whole gang back together as it was a terrific cast to begin with. Well, except Lance Armstrong.

More as this develops.
