Taxi Driver (CE) August 14

Okay, before you start freaking out about “another friggin’ double dip” or the “stupid studios grabbing our cash again” (it’s actually what I said when I saw it), let’s get right into it. There’s a NEWLY recorded feature-length commentary by the man himself, director Martin Scorsese and with the exception of the Original Screenplay, all of the extras on this are brand spankin’ new. Keep in mind this is a Limited Collector’s Edition. Just how limited, no clue. Damn, one of these days I’m gonna get organizized.

Includes:

  • Martin Scorsese on Taxi Driver – Featurette
  • Producing Taxi Driver – Featurette
  • Influence and Appreciation Documentary – Robert De Niro, Oliver Stone, Roger Corman and others pay tribute to Scorsese and the film
  • God’s Lonely Man Documentary – Writer Paul Schrader and Professor Robert Kolker discuss the loneliness themes as seen in the film. Schrader also talks about what circumstances lead to writing the screenplay
  • Travis’ New York Locations – Featurette – An interactive map with visits to the famous New York City locations in 2006, while comparing them to the same locations in 1975
  • Storyboard to Film Comparisons with Martin Scorsese Introduction

Up in Smoke (SE) September 4

It’s Special Edition Tuesday this…..Tuesday on JoBlo.com. But when I read, UP IN SMOKE: HIGH-LARIOUS EDITION, I wanted to throw my laptop in a pool. The problem is I don’t have a pool, so I threw it in my dog’s water bowl. If I had a dog. I don’t know how much of a need for extras you need with UP IN SMOKE but if they threw in some rolling papers, maybe that would be more of an incentive.

Includes:

  • Commentary by Cheech Marin and director Lou Adler
  • Roach Clips – Deleted Scenes with optional commentary
  • Lighting Up: A Look Back at Up in Smoke – Featurette
  • Basketball Jones – Cartoon Short with Intro
  • The Man Song
  • Earache My Eye – Animated music video
  • Theatrical Trailer

They can’t stand each other

Crusing (SE) September 18

I remember being a kid and watching SCARFACE with my father. Then he put on THE GODFATHER, and SERPICO, and then DOG DAY AFTERNOON. Then ol’ Pops put on CRUISING and this once bad ass character actor I had built up in mind came crashing down to the sounds of “it’s raining men.” For the uninitiated, here’s a synopsis: “An undercover cop infiltrates New York City’s leather bar scene (read: gay), and whose identity and relationships are hauntingly affected by his assignment.” It’s directed by William Friedkin, who did the underrated classic, TO LIVE IN DIE AND L.A with William Petersen. Good shite.

Includes:

  • Commentary by Director William Friedkin
  • Soundtrack remastered in Dolby Digital 5.1
  • 2 New Featurettes: The History of Cruising and Exorcising Cruising
  • Original Theatrical trailer
  • Languages: English & Español
  • Subtitles: English, Français & Español (feature film only)
