Edgar Wright really wants Anna Kendrick to play Squirrel Girl

With every new Marvel movie the biggest aspect that plagues everyone’s minds the most is casting. Who’s going to get to play the next beloved hero for, say, the next decade? You could say it’s the biggest responsibility for any one person to have. I mean, we only elect a president for an absolute max of eight years.

But once in a blue moon, the perfect casting choice just falls on our laps. A casting choice so perfect a movie just materializes around the person. Recently we have been graced with such a casting choice: Anna Kendrick as Squirrel Girl. Sure, it may have been a fantasy to believe such a movie would be made with the starlet, but now with a big name director behind her, it may be one step closer to reality.

The director in particular is Edgar Wright, the delightful Brit behind HOT FUZZ, SHAUN OF THE DEAD, ANT-MAN (kind of) and who directed Kendrick in SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD. Now he’s in her corner, taking to Twitter to campaign for her getting the role.

In the tweet he mentions a bunch of other cast members from PILGRIM who have also been cast as heroes, namely: Brandon Routh as Superman and The Atom; Chris Evans as Captain America and Human Torch; Brie Larson as Captain Marvel; Thomas Jane as the Punisher; and Michael Cera as Lego Robin. So now, it’s Kendrick’s turn.

I don’t know if he wants Kendrick to play Squirrel Girl so badly because he has some “stars who have played superheroes” collection complex a la Horace Slughorn in HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE, but either way the pro-Kendrick community is welcome to have his support. Though it's just a lone tweet, maybe it will make enough of a splash in the geek circles to turn it into a wave. Then we can ride that wave to Squirrel-Girly awesomeness.
