The Wrap is reporting that Elle Fanning (MALEFICENT), Olivia Cooke (ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL) and Lola Kirke (MISTRESS AMERICA) are the top contenders to play Art3mis, the female lead in Steven Spielberg's READY PLAYER ONE adaptation.
Art3mis is the avatar Samantha Cook uses while in Oasis, the virtual reality universe from the Ernest Cline novel. Although insiders say it's still early in the casting process, all three are set to test for the part for Spielberg once he's finished with BRIDGE OF SPIES and THE BFG. However, there are two other unidentified actresses who are also in the running for the role. Yesterday we learned that Cooke is also being considered for a lead role in Rian Johnson's STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII.
As for the male lead, Variety's Justin Kroll has heard that Spielberg is eyeing JURASSIC WORLD's Nick Robinson to play Parzival, the Oasis avatar of Wade Owen Watts. Who would you like to see be cast as Art3mis and Parzival?
READY PLAYER ONE is scheduled to open on December 15, 2017.
