ABOUT RAY tells the story of three generations of a family living under one roof in New York. Ray (Elle Fanning) is a teenager who has come to the realization that she isn’t meant to be a girl and has decided to transition from female to male. His single mother, Maggie (Naomi Watts), must track down Ray’s biological father (Tate Donovan) to get his legal consent to allow Ray’s transition. Does the father initially resist the request? Will the family unit learn to embrace change? Does Susan Sarandon play a lesbian grandmother? Check out the trailer and find out!
Okay, so it doesn’t really state that Susan Sarandon plays a a lesbian grandmother, but it’s in the synopsis, I swear. Regardless, acceptance of one’s sex preference is a pretty hot topic these days, so I’m curious to see how this will resonate (if at all) with general audiences. There’s some great drama to work with here, so here’s hoping the film feels more genuine than Lifetime.
