UPDATED: Emma Stone is still fighting zombies, now with Pride and Prejudice

UPDATE: Deadline reports Stone has passed on the P&P&Z opportunity, claiming that “an offer was made but it never got to the negotiation stage.” So we’re still waiting for a zombie-battling lady in frilly attire. Suggestions?

June 22, 2011: While a ZOMBIELAND sequel may never actually happen, Emma Stone isn’t finished with her personal crusade against the shambling undead.

Stone has been offered the lead in the adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith’s mashup PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES, which has been desperately clawing its way to life for ages.

The Lionsgate project now has Craig Gillespie (LARS AND THE REAL GIRL, FRIGHT NIGHT remake) directing, after burning through David O. Russell, Mike White and a list of possible replacements that once included David Slade, Neil Marshall and Mike Newell.

Scarlett Johansson, Anne Hathaway, Mia Wasikowska and Natalie Portman (who is still producing) have all previously been rumored or linked to the role of heroine Elizabeth Bennet, who in this zombified Austen remix will split her attention between romantic interest Mr. Darcy and her family’s war against hordes of flesh-eating rotters.

Stone will be seen a lot this summer in CRAZY STUPID LOVE, FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS and THE HELP, and next year as Peter Parker’s first love Gwen Stacy in the wallcrawler’s reboot AMAZING SPIDER-MAN.
