Marvel's Eternals is one of my most anticipated movies of the year and it looks like it is for many others because its first teaser trailer, released on Monday, clocked in an impressive amount of views.

The first online teaser trailer for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s third Phase 4 movie Eternals drew a powerful 77 million global views in its first 24 hours since dropping Monday, per social analytics sources, via "Deadline." That’s the biggest online trailer drop for a Disney-Marvel movie in the 14 months of the pandemic. Eternals topped the initial 24-hour traffic for Disney’s Cruella trailer (71 million views) following its February 17 drop, and Disney+’s WandaVision, which was released following its airing on last September’s Primetime Emmys.

Eternals’ 24-hour trailer traffic also topped the pre-pandemic numbers for theatrical releases like Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (61.7 million views) and the Will Smith-Guy Ritchie hit Aladdin (60.8 million views). Another interesting tidbit worth noting, Disney+’s trailer for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier pulled in 125 million views following its airing on the Super Bowl this year, but "Deadline" says that figure includes broadcast viewers; Eternals is strictly global online traffic and that makes its results all the more impressive.

Directed by Nomadland Oscar winner Chloé Zhao, Eternals will focus on a species of immortal aliens from a distant planet who arrived on Earth thousands of years ago and have been protecting humans since the dawn of time. The Eternals were created by Celestials, a race of powerful extraterrestrial beings who have secretly lived on Earth for over 7000 years. In order to protect Earth, The Eternals must reunite to protect humanity from their evil counterparts. The film stars Angelina Jolie, Gemma Chan, Salma Hayek, Kit Harrington, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Ma Dong-Seok, and Brian Tyree Henry.

Are YOU surprised by the number of views for the Eternals trailer?
