Everyone’s best laid plans go straight to hell in the new Parasite trailer

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Ever since filmmaker Bong Joon-ho's (SNOWPIERCER, OKJA) PARASITE had its Cannes Film Festival premiere, critics have been raving about the Palme d’Or prize-winning thriller that dabbles in the realms of complex social issues concerning class and how humans often use status as a weapon against their "lesser" peers. Today the film receives a new trailer titled "The Plan," which provides us with an in-depth look at the film's complicated tapestry of judgement, paranoia and plans turned rotten by unforeseen circumstances.

Written by Joon-ho and Han Jin-won, the movie centers on the impoverished Kim family (played by Song Kang-ho, Jang Hye-jin, Choi Woo-shik, and Park So-dam) as they begin to work their way into the good graces of the wealthy Park family (played by Lee Sun-kyun, Cho Yeo-jeong, Jung Ji-so and Jung Hyun-joon). What begins as a relatively uncomplicated plan for infiltration soon transforms into a web of lies, deception and death. Those who live through the ordeal will find themselves irrevocably changed, because there are some actions that you can never take back, regardless of how hard you're willing to try.

Here's the synopsis:

Meet the Park Family: the picture of aspirational wealth. And the Kim Family, rich in street smarts but not much else. Be it chance or fate, these two houses are brought together and the Kims sense a golden opportunity. Masterminded by college-aged Ki-woo, the Kim children expediently install themselves as tutor and art therapist to the Parks. Soon, a symbiotic relationship forms between the two families. The Kims provide "indispensable" luxury services while the Parks give the Kims a way out of their shabby circumstances. But this new ecosystem is fragile, and soon enough greed and class prejudice threaten to upend the Kims' newfound comfort.

PARASITE will infect theatergoers beginning on October 11th.
