If you aren’t hip with Robert Rodriquez’ style by now MACHETE KILLS is, by all accounts, as good as any film to start despite it being a sequel. You’d be hard pressed to find a filmmaker who has kept his “shoot from the hips” approach as fresh as it was when Robert shot EL MARIACHI more than twenty years ago. Even though this is the second MACHETE installment, I still get that giddy feeling seeing Danny Trejo’s face on the poster… Twice the size as anyone else – headlining his own franchise with the likes of Mel Gibson, Sofia Vergara, Lady Gaga, Amber Heard, Antonio Band– O.K. the list is enormous… All the same it’s a damn good sight. So if you’re in the mood for cameo a minute carnage with some looney tunes set pieces, MACHETE KILLS is the ticket.
