Despite my best attempts to check it out, I missed VIVA RIVA! at SXSW. A few friends saw it (including Jordan Hoffman at UGO and loved it and I’m really curious to finally give it a look. It opens up this weekend in NYC and Los Angeles and if you’re looking for a break from the SUPER 8 crowds, this just might be the film for you.
The film stars the beautiful Manie Malone (who has her share of sweaty sex scenes) and Patscha Bay Mukuna as Viva, a small-time crook who unwittingly falls in love with the mistress of a local gangster. The film straight-up swept the African Academy Awards (I’ll be honest – I didn’t even know there was an African Academy Awards) and could be in for some decent returns as a quality indie break in an otherwise blockbuster summer.
