War, what is it good for? I can tell you that while I in no way advocate war in real life, I absolutely do on the big screen. Epic battle sequences, stirring drama, breathtaking cinematography; all are hallmarks of the classic war motion picture. The films both entertain but the genre also represents the old adage of learning from the past so as to not repeat in the future.

Of all wars, World War II seems to be the most common era to be envisioned on the big screen. This is likely due to cinema being as popular as ever during the 1940s during the battles, many of which included Hollywood celebrities at the time. The sheer evil of the Nazi regime also represents the perfect big screen villain that everyone wants to see toppled.
