Sometimes clips from yet-to-be released movies will spoil the special moments in hopes of convincing you to see the movie, and sometimes clips from yet-to-be-released movies convince you to see a movie just because they’re just so damn well done.  And the completely exclusive clip we have to share with you today from DETACHMENT, the new film by AMERICAN HISTORY X director Tony Kaye, is most definitely the latter.

Kaye hasn’t done too many projects since his seminal film, but he’s back in a big way with what looks to be a fantastic piece on how teachers and students struggle to survive and thrive in the midst of an unwelcoming and broken education system.  Entitled “ADHD,” check the clip out below and then read on for all of the official stuff.

Here’s the plot in greater detail, along with the stellar cast Kaye has gathered:

“Director Tony Kaye’s (AMERICAN HISTORY X) long-awaited film DETACHMENT stars Academy Award® winner Adrien Brody as Henry Barthes, a substitute teacher who conveniently avoids any emotional connections by never staying anywhere long enough to form a bond with either his students or colleagues. A lost soul grappling with a troubled past, Henry finds himself at a public school where an apathetic student body has created a frustrated, burned-out administration. Inadvertently becoming a role model to his students, while also bonding with a runaway teen who is just as lost as he is, Henry finds that he’s not alone in a life and death struggle to find beauty in a seemingly vicious and loveless world.

Kaye has molded a contemporary vision of people who become increasingly distant from others while still feeling the need to connect. DETACHMENT features a stellar ensemble cast, including Academy Award® winner Marcia Gay Harden, Christina Hendricks, William Petersen, Bryan Cranston, Tim Blake Nelson, Lucy Liu, Blythe Danner, James Caan, and newcomers Sami Gayle and Betty Kaye.”

DETACHMENT will be available from Tribeca Film on February 24th through Movies On Demand, iTunes, Amazon Watch Instantly, VUDU, and other such services.  The theatrical release date for select lcities is March 16th.
