Famke Janssen and Bill Skarsgard cast as leads in Eli Roth’s Hemlock Grove for Netflix

Infamous genre director Eli Roth has cast Famke Janssen and Bill Skarsgard as the leads in his upcoming Netflix streaming series HEMLOCK GROVE.  The series is based on Brian McGreevy’s gothic novel of the same name and will be directed and executive produced by Roth.

Here’s the synopsis:

Set in a ravaged Pennsylvania steel town, Hemlock Grove begins with an unsolved crime when the body of a young girl is found and a mystery unfolds. As the crime goes unsolved and outlandish rumors mount, Peter and Roman (Skarsgard) decide to find the killer on their own, confronting unspeakable truths about themselves and Hemlock Grove as the mystery unfolds. Janssen is set to play the otherworldly beautiful and controlling grand dame of Hemlock Grove.

Eli Roth had this to say about the venture:

“I’ve been waiting for years to dive into television, and Eric Newman and I founded Arcade to do elevated genre projects exactly like HEMLOCK GROVE,” adding, “Netflix as a platform is the perfect hybrid of cinema, television and social networking, with the creative freedom to go as dark as the story needs.”

I know there are some extreme Eli Roth haters out there, but I’m not one of them. I thoroughly enjoyed both HOSTEL films, CABIN FEVER, and the GRINDHOUSE trailer for THANKSGIVING, which I’d love to see as a full-length film.  Roth has got a keen eye for horror and brings, at the very least, his own style to the genre.  I look forward to seeing how this turns out and I’m equally excited that Roth is being allowed “to go as dark as the story needs.”

The 13-episode first season of HEMLOCK GROVE will be instantly available on Netflix streaming in early 2013.

Also…Famke…thank you for gracing us with your presence. You’ve been hiding out way too long…
