The Godfather: Part II, Francis Ford Coppola, Fathom Events

Fathom Events has just made an offer that fans of Francis Ford Coppola's THE GODFATHER: PART II won't be able to refuse.

It's been announced that Fathom Events is hosting a unique celebration featuring THE GODFATHER: PART II as part of the TCM Big Screen Classics Series. For this momentous occassion, the world-famous mafia epic will screen for three days in nearly 600 movie theaters nationwide — November 10, 12 and 13.

Here is Fathom's official description of the upcoming event:

In what is undeniably one of the best sequels ever made, Francis Ford Coppola continues his epic Godfather trilogy with this saga of two generations of power within the Corleone family. Coppola, working once again with the author Mario Puzo, crafts two interwoven stories that work as both prequel and sequel to the original. One shows the humble Sicilian beginnings and New York rise of a young Don Vito, played by Robert De Niro in an Oscar-winning performance for Best Supporting Actor. The other shows the ascent of Michael (Al Pacino) as the new Don. Reassembling many of the cast members who helped make The Godfather, Coppola has produced a movie of staggering magnitude and vision, the film received eleven Academy Awards nominations, winning six including Best Picture of 1974.

A timeless classic best revered on the big screen, time tested fans and newcomers alike won't want to miss this special event featuring exclusive insight from Turner Classic Movies. This event includes a five minute intermission.

Recently, THE GODFATHER: PART II helmer Francis Ford Coppola has been making headlines for his opinionated take on Marvel films. After accepting the Prix Lumière in Lyon, France on Friday, the 80-year-old auteur was heard saying “When Martin Scorsese says that the Marvel pictures are not cinema, he’s right, because we expect to learn something from cinema, we expect to gain something, some enlightenment, some knowledge, some inspiration.” This statement was of course prompted by an interview conducted with Scorsese earlier this month, in which he claimed the MCU was “not cinema.” Coppola then continued, “I don’t know that anyone gets anything out of seeing the same movie over and over again,” said Coppola. “Martin was kind when he said it’s ‘not cinema.’ He didn’t say it’s despicable, which I just say it is.”

Regardless of Coppola's strong emotions toward Marvel films, there's no doubt that his films have left a lasting mark on Hollywood, THE GODFATHER: PART II among them. Whether you agree with Coppola or not – I certainly don't – the opportunity to see his Best Picture Oscar-winning Godfather film on the big screen is not to be missed for fans of the timeless crime drama.
