Fred Savage is full of questions in new promo for Once Upon a Deadpool

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Deadpool will soon be returning to theaters, and this time, it will be with zero F's given. As you know, ONCE UPON A DEADPOOL will be a PG-13 version of DEADPOOL 2 which will find Deadpool telling the story of the film to Fred Savage in a nod to THE PRINCESS BRIDE. A new promo for the upcoming film finds Fred Savage, who has been restrained to a bed, flinging a quick barrage of pointed questions at Deadpool.

The idea of DEADPOOL filtered through a PG-13 rating may seem a little strange, but Paul Wernick told /Film  back in October that he hopes ONCE UPON A DEADPOOL will not only attract younger viewers who weren't able to see the film the first time around, but that it will also give older fans a reason to come back as well. "I think it’s not only going to appeal to kids but also to people who love Deadpool," Wernick said. "I think it’s subversive enough and fun and creative and something that only Deadpool could do. So I think it’s going to be a real joy for not only a whole new audience, but also an audience that has seen and loved the Deadpool movies."

The official synopsis for ONCE UPON A DEADPOOL:

To kick off the holiday season audiences of almost all ages will soon be able to enjoy the Merc with the Mouth’s reimagining of Deadpool 2 filtered through the prism of childlike innocence. “Fox has been asking for a PG-13 basically since the start in 2006,” Ryan Reynolds told Deadline. “I’ve said no since 2006. Now, this one time, I said ‘Yes’ on two conditions. First, a portion of the proceeds had to go to charity. Second, I wanted to kidnap Fred Savage. The second condition took some explaining…”

Fred Savage will join Reynolds in new scenes for ONCE UPON A DEADPOOL in an homage to Savage’s starring role in the 1987 bedtime-story classic THE PRINCESS BRIDE. Fred remarked, “while my participation in this film was anything but voluntary, I am happy to learn that Fudge Cancer will be the beneficiary of this shameless cash grab.” For every ticket sold, $1 will go to the charity Fudge Cancer – previously known as Fuck Cancer, who have graciously changed their name to be more PG-13 friendly for the 12 days of Once Upon A Deadpool’s release.

ONCE UPON A DEADPOOL will hit theaters on December 12th.
