Game of Thrones star thinks shooting multiple endings would be really stupid

Game of Thrones

Now that the seventh season of Game of Thrones has concluded, we only have six more episodes of the HBO series left before it's all over. Kingdoms will fall, armies will clash, and beloved characters will breathe their last, and it will be one hell of a challenge to keep all of it a secret until it airs. Game of Thrones co-creator Dan Weiss didn't want to say just how far they'll be going in order to keep spoilers to a minimum, "because if we do then somebody will figure out how to circumvent the things that we’re doing." However, earlier this month, HBO Programming President Casey Bloys said that the series would be shooting multiple endings "so that there’s no real definitive answer until the end." HBO would neither confirm nor deny, but one person who thinks that it's a whole bunch of dragon shit is Game of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.

While speaking with Marie Claire, Coster-Waldau, who plays Jaime Lannister on the series, was asked what he thought about whether or not they'll be shooting multiple endings of the finale.

Do you think that's true? It seems really stupid to me. I mean if it's true I don't believe it, but I don't know, maybe. I mean, I haven't read the script, so unless they will show several endings that could be a twist, they're not going to waste that money. They know how expensive it is to shoot. You're not going to waste $100,000 a day to shoot something you're not going to use. It's not going to happen.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is right, that's an awful lot of money to spend on something you're not going to use, but, HBO is sparing no expense when it comes to the final season. According to a report by Variety, each of the final six-episodes will cost $15 million, so what's another $100,000 at the end of the day?

Production on the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones is expected to get underway in October, but the the it may not debut until late 2018 or even early 2019. D'oh.
