The reboot of Garfield is coming.

With an awful pair of live-action/CGI hybrid movies that featured Bill Murray in the voice of the classic cat with a hankering for lasagna having run their course, Garfield is being brought back to the drawing board. Alcon Entertainment has secured the rights to produce an animated adaptation built around the character from Garfield creator Jim Davis, who will operate an an executive producer for what the company hopes will becomes a franchise of films.

The plan is to take Garfield into the world of CG-animation, and re-introduce the character to a new generation of fans who may be unfamiliar with his history or his group of friends, which includes Jon Arbuckle and Odie. 20th Century Fox recently found success in doing something similar with adapting Charlie Brown for THE PEANUTS MOVIE. Alcon is hoping for something similar to happen for them with this deal.
